5 Tips for Authenticating Swiss Watches
Feb 15,2023
Swiss watches have a long history, high brand awareness, and are favored by consumers. Due to the relatively high price of Swiss watches, many people worry that what they buy at a high price is fake, so they can find Chinese watch manufacturers to buy. At the same time, you can also learn some identification methods, so that you don’t have to worry too much about fake watches when you buy them. Here, we will share 5 tips to identify the authenticity of Swiss watches.
1. Check the Swiss watch logo
Generally, the LOGO is the easiest to expose for fake watches, especially the LOGO on the surface. You can use a 4x eyepiece to carefully look at its workmanship. If it is a metal LOGO, the real watch is generally as bright as new. As a rule, if it is a lacquer character, the edge of the real watch is smooth without burrs, and the edge of the fake watch lacquer character is slightly scratched, and the font has a depth, which can be seen clearly with an eight-fold eyepiece.
2. Check the back cover of the case
We will find that many English letters are printed on the back cover of the case, indicating the brand name of the watch, the country of production, the name of all-steel or semi-steel waterproof, anti-magnetic, shock-proof or shock-proof, and engraved with a trademark pattern dedicated to the watch brand. In addition, Swiss watch manufacturers also engrave some numbers to indicate the movement number and shell number of the watch. Most of the patterns and letters engraved on the back cover of the counterfeit watch are very rough and vague, and the case number and movement number are unknown.
3. Check the surface glass
Surface glass is currently produced at a very high level. Generally, fake watches are similar to real watches, except that some brands of watches have markings on the glass. Like the early OMEGA, Rome. The current ROLEX is also marked at 6 o'clock on the glass, which is a small row of ROLEX English letters. The glass is all sapphire, and the appearance is not much different, but the nylon sealing ring is different.
4. Check the dial details
If you observe the fake watch hands carefully with the eyepiece, you can find tiny traces, which are the tweezer marks left during installation, and you will not see similar traces at all on the real watch. The shape of the watch's hands is obviously different from that of the real watch. For example, the place where the needle flag hangs down, the needle is uneven, the brightness is not good, and the edges and corners of the needle are not clear. The tail of the second hand of ROLEX is circular, while the fake watch is flat, and the second hand of some quartz watches is thickened for balance, and so on.
5. Check the watch movement
Some important movement parts are easier to see on the surface and on the balance splint, such as the shock absorber. There are different companies with different grades. Triangular shock absorbers are commonly used for low-end watches, and fake watches are more common.
