10 Dos and Don'ts for Using Your Mechanical Watch
Mar 15,2023
Users will encounter many situations when using the watch, such as sports, cold winter, hot summer, washing clothes, etc., and the impact on the watch is different in different environments. The internal movement components of mechanical watches are composed of mechanical parts, which are balance spring watches powered by clockwork. Generally, mechanical watches are divided into two categories, one is ordinary mechanical watches and fully automatic mechanical watches, and semi-automatic mechanical watches. No matter what kind of mechanical watch, daily maintenance is very important. Watch manufacturers recommend that good maintenance will make your watch last longer.
10 precautions for using mechanical watches:
1. The watch is not suitable for violent vibrations, it is best to take it off when playing ball or hitting something with your hands.
2. The watch is also afraid of flooding. Therefore, it is best to take off the watch when washing clothes, washing hands, or doing other work in contact with water. If there is fog or water spots on the watch glass, it should be repaired in time, wipe off the fog and water spots, and dry the movement. But if there is only some mist, it will disappear by itself after the weather is dry.
3. Don’t let the watch suddenly cool down or heat up. The sudden temperature change will increase the time error of the watch. The spring inside the mechanical watch is easy to break due to the rapid change in temperature, and the rubber ring will accelerate aging, so the waterproof performance of the watch will also be affected.
4. Do not open the cover of the watch at will, so as not to let dust fall in; don’t dial it randomly, and send it to the watch shop for repair in time if it is broken.
5. When the mechanical watch is not in use, it is best to wind it once a month to prevent the oil in the watch from solidifying.
6. Use common sense to maintain mechanical watches, and often use a soft cloth or silk to gently wipe off the dirt and sweat on the watch case.
7. There must be a fixed time for manual winding mechanical watches, and it is best to wind them all at once. Wind up and turn the watch handle at an appropriate speed, not too tight. If it is too tight, the mainspring is easy to be stuck by the oil in the mainspring box. When the mainspring is relaxed, it is easily broken due to excessive elasticity.
8. The surface glass of the watch is not very hard, so it should avoid rubbing with sharp and sharp substances, and avoid being corroded by high pressure, high heat, and chemical reagents, so as to avoid scratching or damage. If there are slight scratches, use common sense to maintain the mechanical watch. You can apply toothpaste on the flannelette and rub it back and forth on the watch glass to remove the scratches. Remember not to wipe with alcohol, in case the watch glass and alcohol react chemically and break. Although hard metal and sapphire glass are resistant to wear and scratches, they are not suitable for inappropriate operations such as bumping, heavy pressure, and heavy dropping.
9. Any watch should not be worn in warm water or in the bathroom, even if your watch is a waterproof watch, because the sealing roll of the watch is rubber, which is easy to age when exposed to heat, and the surrounding water vapor molecules are relatively small, which can easily penetrate into the case and cause damage to internal machinery.
10. Please do not let the watch get close to solvents, mercury, cosmetic sprays, cleaners, adhesives or paints, or camphor, otherwise the case and strap will be discolored, deteriorated, or damaged. Camphor is a highly volatile substance that can easily solidify engine oil and lose its lubricating effect, thereby damaging the accuracy of clocks and watches.
The above are the matters needing attention in the use of ten watches. As a precision tool, the maintenance of a mechanical watch cannot be ignored. Even if the watch is of the best quality, it will be inaccurate or even damaged if it is left out of maintenance. We are a watch manufacturer with more than ten years of experience.
